Ron Finley is an urban activist that has chosen to dedicate himself to creating community
gardens in impoverished areas. South Central LA is considered to be a food desert,
meaning that many residents in the community do not have access to fresh and
nutritional sources of food and produce. As a result chronic disease is far more prevalent
in his community in comparison to other more wealthy communities, like Beverly Hills.
His solution to this dilemma is to convert unused and vacant land into a “food forest” for
the community to tend and harvest.
